Roulette
The famous casino game roulette is named after the french word for ‘little wheel’. The game consists of a spinning wheel with several the numbers one untill 37 (or 38) in the colors black and red. Players of the game can bet on a single number, on several numbers, on red or black and on even and odd numbers.
The game begins with the players placing their bets on the numbers or colors which they think will win. then the croupier spins the wheel in one directio
n and the ball is spinned in the opposite direction. When the ball eventually loses momentum, he will fall into one of the colored and numbered pockets of the roulette wheel.
Roulette history
The first roulette games were played in France in the 18th century. The first recorded roulette game was described in a French novel; La Roulette, ou le Jour by Jaques Lablee. In the book, the writer describes a game of roulette in the current form in the Palais Royal in Paris in 1796.
The first roulette used to have a zero and a double zero (with the green color), later in 1843 the first single zero style roulette was introduced in a German Casino. Later all kind of variations of the game
started to appear.
A funny anecdote says that Francois Blanc who invented roulette, bargained with the devil to obtain the secrets for the game. This legendary anecdote is derived from the fact that when all the numbers of the roulette are summed, you
get a total number of 666 which is the ‘number of the beast’.
